One of my friends recently told me that if I want to have an impact with the work I do and I want to improve at my crafts, I need to do work in public.

For start-ups, there’s this concept of LARPing. This is where a company, instead of focusing on getting paying customers, focus too much on developing a product without any financial income. This is considered “LARPing” because, when push comes to shove, you only know people’s actual opinions and whether they find what you do as valuable if they’re willing to put their money where their mouth is.

This public journal, and really this entire website, is going to be me doing the opposite of LARPing. I want to get good at what I do by actually doing the thing, not practicing the thing in isolated environments.

taking an acting class ⇒ audition & get on any project

writing a short film script ⇒ make a short film and put it on youtube.

take improv classes ⇒ perform improv / try out for a house team

say you’re a writer ⇒ make a book of short stories and promote it to publishers

take a comedy sketch class ⇒ publish filmed sketches to youtube and/or perform sketch shows in the city
