Actions & Next Steps
  • come in with a plan
  • You don’t need high quality camera things for self tapes. An iPhone works fine.
  • If you are using high quality camera things (your Sony alpha 6400), make sure you know how to get it into a good state to record cinematic video.
  • Come in with something memorized so you can play with it. Record, watch, adjust, repeat
  • In the future, come in with a scene partner and do this.
    • For scene practice, you need a partner. Otherwise you will learn to have your reactions set and when you get in a scene with a partner you won’t play off of them.
    • For monologue practice, you can easily practice on your own.
  • If you want good lighting, you’ll have to buy a basic lighting kit and learn how to use it
    • 3 point lighting
  • This will be a lot of equipment to carry around to different PEERSPACE rental spaces. You need a dedicated space for shooting video. WeWork office? Creative studio 6 month rental? Just a set up in your own room?
  • Always come freshly shaven
  • Always come with your wardrobe prepared
  • Always come having a backdrop to use if you need one (eg some studio spaces don’t have backdrops, bring your own)
  • If you’re by yourself, it’s better to use iPhone unless you really know your way around alpha 6400. If you use your a6400, ensure that the auto-focus doesn’t fuck up the focus throughout the take
  • For the next month or so, come up with a scene, sketch, or monologue each week and rent a space each weekend. Film it. You might come up for an idea for a 7 person sketch and so a big space thru peerspace is the move. You might just need a room with a plain backdrop. Keep it flexible unless it makes sense to buy a general purpose space. Each sketch you may need a different setting for.
